David Starbuck Smith was born and raised in Denver, Colorado where his parents introduced him to tennis at the age of 5. He later received an athletic scholarship to UC Berkeley where he played on the tennis team from 1991-1994 until leaving to play professionally for three years.
After returning to Cal to finish his degree in ’97, David pursued his next passion – understanding the human body – and graduated with a degree in Human Biodynamics (aka Integrative Biology). In ‘99 David began training as an Exercise Therapist under Pete Egoscue at the Egoscue Method in San Diego where he worked until 2004.
David then opened up his own franchised Egoscue clinic in San Francisco where he spent the next 15 years helping people of all ages rid themselves of chronic musculoskeletal pain. Over the last twenty plus years David has become an expert at identifying postural and mechanical imbalances and creating specific routines to restore balance and function to the whole body. He is now a sought-after and regular consultant to teams and players in the NFL, NCAA, ATP and WTA where he helps athletes of all sports heal faster from injuries, prevent injuries, reduce recovery time, and improve their athletic performance.
David's new book Ageless, Painless Tennis explores myths around aging and athletics and dives into the real cause behind injuries and diminished athletic performance. David is a firm believer that our bodies will heal when balance is restored physically and emotionally.
David speaks regularly at conferences, conventions, companies, and athletic clubs around the country, and is always willing to help anyone, anytime, solve their stubborn aches and pains.
